How is the Almuten Figuris calculated?
The essential dignities of the planet ruling each of the five vital points are scored —domicile (5), exaltation (4), triplicity (3), term (2) and face (1)— and added up. The Almuten Figuris is calculated over the five vital points at once, so it represents the dominant strength of the whole chart, not of a single angle. Sometimes they coincide and sometimes not: when they differ, reading them together enriches the native's portrait.
The interesting part comes when comparing it with the ruler of the Ascendant —the planet that rules the sign rising over the horizon. Sometimes they coincide: then there is a clear life orientation, a single voice directing the chart.
